Errissary Erissery is a kerala special dish made for Onam, and made mostly with yellow pumpkin,called as Mathanga erissery. I remember my mom makes this but i have never made tried this on my own or tasted it after marriage. As my athai is very fond of this erissery, she makes this more when she comes to our house for summer vacation. You can cook Errissary using 20 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Errissary

  1. Prepare of Pumpkin (green).
  2. You need of Coconut grated.
  3. Prepare of Red beans(fresh seed) optional.
  4. You need of Oil.
  5. It's of Tomato (paate).
  6. You need of Onion.
  7. You need of Garlic cloves chopped.
  8. Prepare of Ginger.
  9. Prepare of Curry Leaves.
  10. Prepare of Chilli powder.
  11. You need of Green chilli chopped.
  12. It's of Turmeric Powder.
  13. Prepare of Garam Masala.
  14. It's of Kerala curry powder.
  15. It's of Cumin Mustard seeds.
  16. Prepare of Bay leaf.
  17. It's of Asafetida.
  18. You need of Salt.
  19. It's of Cumin Coriander Powder.
  20. It's of Coriander chopped.

Blend grated coconut along with garlic, cumin seeds, green chillies, turmeric powder and pepper powder into a fine paste. Erissery It is made of raw plantains and Yams sliced and boiled in water with salt and chillies or pepper added. The pulp of the coconut is ground with a little cumin seed added to it. When the whole thing is properly boiled, a few mustard seeds along with scraped coconut pulp fried in coconut oil, is added in to it to give it flavour.

Errissary step by step

  1. Heat the oil on medium flame give tadka with seeds, Asafetida, curry leaves and bay leaf. Add chilies and ginger garlic..
  2. Make paste of onion and add it, once it golden in colour add coconut, roast little then add tomato paste and mix well..
  3. Add all remaining spices, salt and then beans and pumpkin pieces, add 2 glass of water..
  4. Cover with lid and cook till it’s become smashed when press by spoon. (Added 1 more Kashmirilal chilli powder which is optional).
  5. Add some coriander and serve with roti, puri or rice. Thank you.
